Associate Product Manager
As an
Associate Product Manager on the Recommendations team
, you will support the design, development, and delivery of data driven, personalized experiences that help customers discover the right products and services at the right time. You will collaborate with cross functional partners, contribute to product discovery and execution activities, and help translate customer and business needs into clear product outcomes.
Ideal candidates are analytical, curious, detail oriented, and eager to grow into increasing product responsibility. This role offers the opportunity to learn recommender systems, machine learning-powered capabilities, and personalization strategies while contributing meaningfully to Best Buy's enterprise scale platforms.
This role is
hybrid
, which means you will be required to work some days on-site at the Best Buy location listed on this posting and some days virtually from home or another non-Best Buy location. Key Responsibilities
Shape product outcomes by helping define goals, writing user stories, and translating strategy into clear, actionable work.
Partner closely with engineering, data science, and machine learning teams to refine problem statements, clarify requirements, and support delivery of relevance- or recommendation-focused features.
Support day-to-day product execution, including backlog grooming, sprint planning, writing acceptance criteria, and ensuring work is well-defined and testable.
Assist in developing and improving ML-powered capabilities--such as ranking, scoring, experimentation, and model iteration--and analyze data to identify opportunities for product enhancement.
Contribute to measurement and insight work by helping define success metrics, reviewing analytics and A/B test results, and using data to guide product improvements.
Conduct basic customer research and competitive analysis, share insights with partners, and help document product learnings to support a strong, customer-centric product culture.
Basic Qualifications
2 years of product experience in an Agile technology, data, or ML adjacent environment
1 year of direct exposure to recommendation, personalization, search, or decisioning systems (professional experience, coursework, or practical projects)
Experience collaborating with cross functional teams (engineering, analytics, design, data science)
Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Marketing, or a related field--or equivalent practical experience
Ability to use data and performance metrics to support product recommendations and prioritization decisions
Preferred Qualifications
1+ year of product experience supporting initiatives involving recommender systems, search, personalization, experimentation platforms, or ML driven decisioning
Understanding of concepts such as ranking, retrieval, personalization strategies, exploration vs. exploitation, and basic model evaluation metrics
Demonstrated contribution to product improvements that impacted engagement, conversion, or customer experience
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create clear requirements and articulate rationale behind product decisions
